Armida

Armida originates in Italian language and was probably invented by the Italian poet Torquato Tasso and used in his epic poem Jerusalem Delivered. In the poem, Armida is a Saracen witch who falls in love with Rinaldo, the First Crusade soldier. Over centuries, Armida has been an inspiration for several operas.
