The name Mavis orinates in Old French and it means "song thrush". Initially, it was used in the novel The Sorrows of Satan, written by Marie Corelli. Geoffrey Chaucer also used it in his Canterbury Tales. It was popular in the 1930s but nowadays it is rather old-fashioned.
